It was a good movie with some excellent actors and acting. We would recommend it to anyone enjoying classic plays turned into a movie.

I loved this version of the play. Thought it was cheeky and did not take itself seriously at all. Acting was terrific.

It is reasonably enjoyable to watch although the film does make annoying excursions into the surreal, the music is overstated, and the casting sometimes questionable. Regardless, the film is worth a look by Oscar Wilde enthusiasts and others interested in British period flicks. All others should pass on this one.

There is an earlier film version of The Importance of Being Earnest with Michael Denison, Ralph Richardson and a classic performance by Dame Edith Evans as Lady Bracknell but in so many ways, this version surpasses it on the whole. It does not play around overmuch with the film's beginning as the earlier film does but it does modernise much of the behaviour of the characters (that would not have been seen on the Victorian stage). If you've ever read the play, many of the lines will be familiar to you and you can smile again at their wit. If you are unfamiliar with the play, listen to the cleverness of Wilde's constant inversions and reversals of common phrases in the speech of the actors (e.g Divorces are made in heaven!).

Was pleasantly surprised by this strange film. I had no idea what it was about before watching it (my girlfriend chose it), yet spent most of the film laughing and having a great time. Apparently, it is based on a play - if so this has got to be one of the better adaptations from stage to screen I have yet seen. If you like a comedy filled with the twists and turns of fate, you will love The Importance of Being Earnest.

This is a top rate movie in all respects. The script honours Oscar Wilde's play, and the superb actors realise the characters perfectly. The music helps the movie move along very well. The whole poroduction is wonderful.
