Julie & Julia

Synopsis

Meryl Streep is Julia Child and Amy Adams is Julie Powell in writer-director Nora Ephron's adaptation of two bestselling memoirs: Powell's Julie & Julia and My Life in France by Julia Child with Alex Prud'homme.

Based on two true stories, Julie & Julia intertwines the lives of two women who, though separated by time and space, are both at loose ends... until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.

Interesting, well crafted and executed. The topic may appeal to a selected group of movie boffins but Meryl is extraordinary.

Good movie for "foodies" and Meryl Streep fans. Her performance, as usual immaculate. Same can be said about Amy Adams. Also really a change to see a movie with functional relationships depicted. Pity the extras didn't have something of the real footage for we foreigners not as familiar as (obviously) the Americans are with the character.

I missed this at the cinema and am really glad I've seen it now. I hadn't realised it was a true story. Meryl Streep was wonderful, as always. I had heard criticisms of her accent but in fact this is how Julia Child spoke. A delightful film and one I would watch again.

I can't believe how bored I was with this movie - I adore Meryl Streep, and her acting in this is great (although her voice is VERY annoying). I thought I'd love this because I love France, the food and Meryl, but I stopped it half way because it was boring me too much - I ended up watching the second half, but it draaaaged. A movie about a girl who wants to do something more with her life, and she cooks a recipe each day from her favorite chef for a year, that's pretty much it.. in a nut shell.

Loved Meryl Streep in that movie. She sounds so much like the real Julia Child. Very funny.

This movie has been put together well and has good direction. A little slow at parts, this is about an American local B grade celeb so us Aussies couldn't relate to it like the Yanks (now, if it was about Margaret Fulton - well), overall not bad.
