Full Metal Jacket

Synopsis

A superb ensemble cast falls in for action in Stanley Kubrick's brilliant saga about the Vietnam War and the dehumanizing process that turns people into trained killers. Joker (Matthew Modine), Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin), Gomer (Vincent D'Onofrio), Eightball (Dorian Harewood), Cowboy (Arliss Howard) and more - all are plunged into a boot-camp hell pitbulled by a leatherlung D.I. (Lee Ermey) who views the would-be devil dogs as grunts, maggots or something less.
The action is savage, the story unsparing, the dialogue spiked with scathing humor. Full Metal Jacket, from its rigors of basic training to its nightmare of combat in Hue City, scores a cinematic direct hit.

Excellent movie. It has been years since I watched this one and it only gets better. The characters are real and the moral of the story is not lost. The futility of war.

Ignore the bad reviews for this film and ignore the good reviews as well. Watch it and make up your own mind. Love it or hate it, you'll definitely remember it. No other film about Vietnam shows the disparity more clearly than "Full Metal Jacket".

Typical war film but it was watchable. I didn't mind it. Not a chick flick though ha ha

Some of the most brilliant actors today were in that movie which I didn't know and as usual played their parts very well. As much as it was classified MA I really think it should be considered R. Fantastic movie though..........

This movie is a classic Vietnam War movie. Based on a group of boys who are dehumanised during soldier training and then sent to fight in the Vietname War, it set new standards of it's time for the brutality it portrays. This movie is in the class of veitnam war classic movies such as "Apocolypse Now" and "Platoon". This movie is more about satisfying your curiosity of the conditions of the Vietnam war than a means of entertainment, as this type of brutality is too realistic to entertain a balanced mind.

Excellent film which all these years later serves as a reminder of the senselessness and brutality that went on in Vietnam, and which is probably being somewhat replicated in Iraq today. Terrific performances, music and direction.
