The Legend of Zorro

Synopsis

The year is 1850. The territory of California is poised to become the 31st state of the union, but certain unscrupulous individuals - members of a mysterious medieval organisation - are determined to prevent this from transpiring.

Once again, the masked hero Zorro must come to the aid of the people of California so they can become citizens of the United States of America.

Don Alejandro de la Vega (Antonio Banderas) who inherited the mask of Zorro, is now married to Elena (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and they have a 10-year-old son Joaquin (Adrian Alonso). Elena demands Alejandro choose between his family and his crusading alter ego and so, when an unexpected crisis forces Alejandro to don the mask of Zorro, she serves him with divorce papers.

When French aristocrat Armand (Rufus Sewell) moves to California to start a winery, he is thrilled to hear that his former schoolmate Elena has separated from her husband. He begins to woo her, while at the same time attending to his duties as head of the Knights of Aragon - a secret ancient fraternity.

Don Alejandro now finds himself caught in a dilemma between his obligation to serve the oppressed and threatened people of California and his responsibilities as husband and father.

The casting of the characters was spot on, and the movie was enjoyable from start to finish.

Certainly something different in the treatment of this early 19th century folk here of the western united states. A good yarn and an enjoyable film.

I do not know why there have been so many negative reviews of this movie. It was great (enjoyed by the whole family). Equally as good as the first. Hopefully there will be a 3rd Zoro movie.

This movie seemed to try the style of Wild West with Will Smith but somehow it just didnt work. Trying to add a modern twist to this classic story only ruined it for me.

It's ok, nowhere near as good as the original. Some ok action scenes, but the CGI is quite obvious in some bits. Antonio is great as always, and Catherine Zeta kicks some butt. However, it doesn't really grab you, just an average film. The little kid (their son) is pretty funny though.

I like the movie, but don't think it replaces the original. To those who don't remember the original, you will love it. Betty
