Racing Stripes

Synopsis

A baby zebra named Stripes is accidentally abandoned by a traveling circus during a rainstorm. The zebra foal is discovered by horse trainer Nolan Walsh, who rescues Stripes and takes him home to live with him and his young daughter Channing on their modest Kentucky farm.

The farm is next door to a race track, where Stripes and Channing grow up together as best friends who share a similar ambition - both dream of racing in the prestigious Kentucky Open.

Stripes must overcome prejudice and self-doubt (plus the fact he is not actually a horse) to pursue his lifelong dream of landing in the winner's circle. With help from the rest of his farmyard friends he chases his dream to race with the big horses.

Very tacky smutty voiceovers make this otherwise standard family movie unacceptable for children. So determined to make this movie understandable for children it has left out all shades of grey and you are left with very exaggerated characters - none of whom you would like your child to be exposed to - let alone emulate. To top off the ridiculously simplistic good/bad characters in the movie - they then expect the viewer to appreciate the humour of a Pelican Hitman who is afraid of guns (hmm animals talking about "hits" they have made - very good for the little ones) a companion animal who felt left out of the accolades and vicious predjudice of people and animals. A lot of very heavy, in your face issues - in a kids movie - bad move. Amazing animals and pretty scenes - Racing Stripes would be a better movie if viewed in MUTE.

Great viewing for all ages, although younger viewers may miss some of the very clever references to other famous movies made in 'one-liners'. Wonderful animal characters (voiced by some well known actors) steal the show. It's a good piece of escapism, with lots of funny moments, but also contains helpful values messages about being different, following your dreams, etc.

What a great movie...it shows that sometimes being different is just the best thing of all.

Not quite what I expected but stick with it and its actually a very funny movie, especially the two flies! Its actually quite refreshing to watch a movie with no swearing and no one getting killed!
