The Exorcist

Synopsis

Brace yourself as one of the all-time spellbinders possesses you all over again. Director William Friedkin and producer/screenwriter William Peter Blatty have revisited The Exorcist to integrate 11 minutes of scenes and images deleted before the film's 1973 release and digitally restore the picture and audio elements. The result is an experience more gripping than ever.
Now seen are moments deepening the impact of the performances by Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. They include a "nervous disorder" diagnosis, expansion of Father Merrin's arrival before the ritual, priestly doubts during the ritual, an epilogue with Lt. Kinderman and Father Dyer and most notably, a shattering staircase descent by Regan. Winner of Oscars of Best Adapted Screenplay (by Blatty) and Sound, The Exorcist astonishes time and again like no other movie.

AFTER NEARLY THIRTY YEARS I STILL GOT THOSE GOOSE BUMPS THIS FILM WAS WAY BEFORE ITS TIME

This movie was good for its day,but now seems rather dated. The special effects still stand up as a bench mark for films for this genre.

The new cut on an old favourite with enhanced sound, music, additional scenes - like the walking crab! Is it better than the original? Well, it's difficult to watch the movie without the images of the numerous comedy sketches playing in your head spewing rivers of green slime...but, I did notice a difference. The beginning did appear much shorter before it got to the 'action' of Regan's 'spinning head' and it does have a different ending. Whether it's better, I will have to watch the original again to compare. Maybe it's the years since I last saw it, but my wife (who has never seen it) did ask what all the fuss was about. It's probably past it's 'sell by' date now and is only great to those who recall the absolute horror the original viewing created many, many years ago!

Always a classic. This version is better than the original theatrical release. More in depth story and a bit scarier. Special effects are showing their age but hey they are still great.

An old favourite standing the test of time and still maintaining its shock tactics !

Still holds up well and has the power to shock and offend. It's images are so well known, and it has been parodied many times that people who haven't seen it think they know it. If you are one of these people, trust me, you are wrong.
