Anyone who has landed in Tokyo, jet-lagged and unable to sleep - and feeling that instead of being in another country, they are actually on another planet - will identify with this gentle romantic comedy. Bill Murray is unusually quiet, but very effective as the ageing American movie star on a rushed trip to Japan to film a lucrative TV commercial. Playing opposite him is Scarlett Johannsen, as a young wife, bored and alone in the same hotel, while her husband is working. This certainly isn't your predictable romance, and the story is handled with great delicacy. There are some quietly funny cross-cultural moments mixed in with the storyline. It's a gentle classic of a film, and highly recommended. |

This movie is worth having a look at, mainly to experience different aspect to Storyline and Filmmaking. Bill Murray's acting was excellent once again, and was impressive with his versatality. He was well supported by a professional cast. Having travelled for work I can identify with the situation of being "Alone" amongst millions. And any distraction to make one feel comfortable in a foreign environment is always preferable. I thought the focus on a "freindship" relationship was a nice change of direction than the "sex" angle. The movie was a bit slow at times but overall was good. Importantly we were entertained by the story and would recommend to others to view this picture. |
